ArtReach Orlando provides art programs for youth experiencing difficult economic and/or social situations who may not have access to the arts. Through the creative process, we are exploring the link between art, social justice, and the healing process. Many of our students struggle with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Through art and self-expression, youth can safely explore these issues and create personal solutions that develop their self-worth and emotional resilience. By fostering creativity, we are encouraging and empowering young people to imagine the positive changes they wish to see in their own lives, their communities, and the world.
Artreach Orlando is thrilled to announce the completion of our community-based public art program, The Arlington Arts Mural Project. Arlington Arts is a partnership between ArtReach Orlando and McRae Art Studios. The facility, located in Parramore, is a 10,000-square-foot building with studios for 23 working artists, space for exhibitions, and
ArtReach Orlando's Community Classroom. Since 2018, ArtReach Orlando's Community Classroom has provided visual art classes and camps for local youth to explore the creative process through inquiry-based learning, hands-on studio art experiences, and interactions with professional artists. The Arlington Arts Mural Project transforms the outside of the building, so that the exterior reflects the inspiring programs that occur within its walls.
Our hope is that young people from around the community will see the mural and know there is a place where they are celebrated and supported, a place where they can create, connect, and heal through the transformative process of art.
"...the last thing written was, 'I am enough.' I knew we had turned a corner in this student’s life, and she would be ok. ArtReach Orlando literally saved a life. That is how powerful the healing aspects of art can be. I will never forget this experience."
"It was really amazing to be a part of the mural project on the side of our community classroom because I feel like I’ve been immortalized. When my family and I drive by the mural, I feel I’m a positive symbol for my community."
"For me, it was a place where that kind of discovery was actively encouraged and fostered through the connections I made with teachers and other students. I don't think I would be the same person I am today if I hadn't had camp in my life as a kid."
As educators, we notice the larger social structures and backdrops to students’ lives and acknowledge the influence this may have on students’ experiences. We think of the classroom as a microcosm for the outside world and notice, with sensitivity, prevailing social issues.
We work to gain a greater understanding of short-term, intermediate, and long-term outcomes to ensure program quality, youth satisfaction with the programs, and progress in our mission to transform the lives of youth through the healing process of art.
Want to bring ArtReach Orlando’s innovative programming to your community or school?
Every dollar you give goes directly to the development and delivery of programs that transform the lives of youth through the healing process of art. Thank you!
